I am a tenacious and industrious scientist that believes in success through innovation, exploration, and spirited teamwork. I believe that experience, expertise, and diversity are cornerstones to a lush, fulfilling, and sustainable future for our planet.
My passion lies in the ocean and all the magnificent creatures that live within it. Working with local communities in conserving this shared passion is a privilege, as there is always something new to learn. My dream is for a healthy ocean future with lush and abundance, where humanity strives for its prosperity.
About Me
Hashim Said has a Masters’ in Science Degree in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management. He graduated with Great Distinction in 2019 from the Oceans and Lakes interuniversity programme, hosted by the University of Antwerp, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Ghent University.
He currently works for WWF-Kenya as a Marine Project Officer. His key roles include proposal writing and fundraising; donor correspendence and relations management; project design, planning and management; project implementation and reporting; stakeholder mobilisation, and engagement; and project monitoring, evaluation and learning.
His technical expertise lies in spearheading area-based conservation work, fisheries co-management and livelihood improvement. His past project includes the EU funded BIOPAMA project aimed at improving the management effectivenss of Kisite Mpunguti MPA. His current projects include:
- A Danida funded Solar for Cooling Project, aimed at reducing fisheries post-harvest losses, and enhancing income generation in the small-scale fisheries sector
- A Beckett Foundation funded project aimed at streamlining the sustainable community-led marine turtle conservation in Kenya. This project seeks to standardise and centralise data collection, while piloting feasible income generating models to sustain marine turtle conservation groups
- A GIZ-led Kenya-Tanzania Transboundary Conservation Area initiative, which is currently under review. The aim of the project is to increase marine area under effective management while creating practical benefits to adjascent communities in the Shimoni-Vanga Seascape
